I love to look at homes. I could spend all day (and have) visiting model homes and open houses. Some are beautifully creative, sparking décor ideas for my own home, while others are nice but kind of ordinary. This contemporary barn house in the Northern California city of Chileno Valley (near Petaluma) is anything but ordinary.

The Hupomone Ranch sits on 160 acres and was designed by architecture firm Turnbull Griffin Haesloop. The firm, along with interior designer Erin Martin, was told that the owners, which consisted of a couple and their three young children, wanted a barn house, contemporist reports. The result is beautiful, breathtaking and, as it turns out, eco-friendly. According to My Modern Met, the home was designed “as a certified LEED Platinum dwelling. It has passive heating and cooling with thermal mass and insulation, in addition to solar and photovoltaic panels that contribute to its overall energy efficiency.”
