The ballpark brings to mind hotdogs, peanuts, Crackerjacks … and cows? The Texas Rangers honored their state’s dairy farmers before one of their June games by having a cow-milking contest. It’s an event they hold annually.
Robbie Ross, reliever for the Rangers, and George Kottaras, catcher for the Cleveland Indians, took to the field for the pregame festivities. Trading their cleats and gloves for buckets and stools, the players readied themselves down the leftfield line’s foul territory.
Ross took an early lead, but then his cow knocked over his bucket. Milk trickled down the foul line, and Ross was forced back to starting position.
“I couldn’t believe that happened,” he told NBC News. “I was cruising, too.”
Kottaras, who first milked a cow in last year’s contest, soon dominated the lead and took home the win for the second year in a row.
