Did the recycling effort create a world record? We’ll see!
The Dallas Cowboys stadium in Arlington, Texas, was the site of an e-waste recycling event, along with facilities located in Long Beach, Calif.; Sacramento,Calif.; Chicago, Ill.; and New York, N.Y., that combined, were part of an effort of a global recycling company to enter Guinness World Records for the most consumer waste recycled in a 24-hour period.
The e-waste collections were part of Sims Recycling Solutions Earth Day events last month, and the international company may not receive official word on whether they broke the record for another four to six weeks, Marketing and Communications Specialist Stephanie Oden says.
Oden also says the company couldn’t disclose the weights of the waste that was collected until the company receives confirmation from Guinness World Records.
Sims Recycling, which describes itself as the global leader in electronics reuse and recycling, attempted to break a Guinness world record in the category of “most consumer electronics recycled within 24 hours — multiple locations.”
The company operates on five continents, with at least 10 e-waste recycling sites in the United States, according to its website.
Throughout the month of April, Sims Recycling Solutions held several events around the world in celebration of Earth Day. Collections took place in Austria, Belgium, England, Germany, Scotland, South Africa, Sweden and the Netherlands. In the United States, California, Illinois, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Tennessee and Texas participated.
Sims Recycling Solutions is part of Sims Metal Management and, for three years in a row, have been recognized as one of the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, according to its website.
