When it comes to productive plants, not much does better than kale. As long as you continue to regularly harvest this sturdy leafy green throughout the season, the plants will continue to reward you with nutritious fodder for your table from March through November.
When it comes to harvesting kale for your next salad, stir-fry or batch of kale chips, hand-pick by pulling bottom leaves off of the plant first. Alternatively, you can use clippers to make a clean cut, helping the plant to heal faster, thus creating less stress on your crop. Over time, your plant may look something like a palm tree, but it will continue to keep producing if you want it to.
