A paper-plate craft craze is sweeping across Pinterest, and I’m totally on the bandwagon! I always keep paper plates on hand because they are cheap, sturdy and perfect for crafting with the kids.
Your kids will enjoy making their very own rainbow paper plate turtle, and you’ll love that you have everything on hand to make this fun little project.

Here’s what you’ll need:
- paper plates
- colored tissue paper
- glue (I like a thinner glue, like Modge Podge, for this.)
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
- paint brushes
- scissors
- green cardstock
- googley eyes
Step 1

Cut the tissue paper into 1- to 1½-inch squares. Let the kids use paint brushes to apply glue to the underside of the plate and stick tissue paper squares onto the glue.

Cut a turtle head, four legs and a tail from the green cardstock, and use the hot glue to attach them to the other side of the plate. Glue the googley eyes onto the head.

Let everything dry and then enjoy!
My kids had a blast making these. They loved being able to apply the glue with the paint brushes. It worked better than glue sticks and wasn’t as hard to get out as a bottle of glue. They also loved these turtles! The turtles had a picnic with us for lunch. They jumped on the trampoline (and my what good jumpers they are). And then they slept happily on the kids’ dressers later that night.
These are the easiest, most low-maintenance pets we’ve ever had. I think we’ll keep them!
